Paying for Nursing School and Financial Aid
If you need assistance paying for nursing school, our Office of Financial Aid can provide you with general information regarding the different funding opportunities available for our Accelerated BSN program, including navigating the Federal Student Aid journey.

To be eligible for Federal Financial Aid, you must be:
- Accepted into a degree program
- Enrolled in at least six credit hours per term
- A U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen
- In good financial standing, with no federal loan default
- Registered for Selective Service, if a male applicant
When it comes to financial aid, the first step is to complete and submit the free application for federal student aid (FAFSA). Federal Student Aid, a part of the U.S. Department of Education, is the largest provider of student financial aid in the nation, providing more than $150 billion in federal grants, loans and work-study funds each year to eligible students.
Northeastern University–Burlington ABSN Scholarship
To further support new students with the cost of their nursing education, Northeastern University-Burlington offers a scholarship to all newly admitted students to the Burlington ABSN program. Enrolled students receive a $12,000 scholarship, dispersed in $3,000 installments per semester over four semesters. Northeastern University–Charlotte ABSN Scholarship
In response to North Carolina’s mounting nursing shortage, Northeastern University-Charlotte created a special ABSN Scholarship to encourage more individuals to enter the profession. Every newly admitted student to the Charlotte ABSN program automatically receives a $26,000 scholarship from our university to help pay for their nursing education, bringing the total tuition cost for students seeking a second degree to under $60,000. FAFSA Advice
Below are a few helpful hints for FAFSA completion. If you need further assistance, our financial aid staff is happy to help you with the Federal Student Aid process.
- Visit the Federal Student Aid website
- Complete and file your FAFSA (our school code is 002199)
- A parent’s signature MIGHT be required
- List your grade level as fifth year/other undergraduate
- Report the degree as second bachelor’s degree
- Answer “no” to the question about being a graduate or professional program
