Nursing students are a special group of people. They spend a lot of time in school obtaining the knowledge and skills they need to give the best patient care possible. Many of the nursing students at Northeastern enter the profession because they want to make a difference in people’s lives – they aren’t looking for a reward. But if there’s a nursing student in your life who could use a little boost, check out these gift ideas.
1. Caffeine: Nursing students have a lot on their plate – online classes, skills lab sessions and clinical rotation shifts in addition to responsibilities outside of school. Whether it’s in the form of coffee, tea or an energy drink, caffeine is an easy pick-me-up for a nursing student.
2. Relaxation: Long shifts and care giving can take a toll on even the toughest nurse. Nursing students have an additional layer of stress because they’re still learning how to interact with patients and medical staff in a clinical setting. When they’re not studying, they deserve some down time! Sharing a good book, buying a gift certificate for a massage or even offering to help out with some chores are all great ways you can help a nursing student recharge.
3. Food: Who wouldn’t enjoy a night at their favorite restaurant? A gift certificate to a favorite place is a nice way to treat the nursing student in your life. You could also prepare a healthy meal that can be eaten in between classes or during a shift break. The schedule of a nursing student is pretty hectic, and sometimes they only have a few minutes to get from one activity to the next, so if you do make something at home, remember that it needs to be portable.
