weekend-getaways-for-accelerated-bsn-students-in-massachusettsAlthough your nursing education requires constant dedication, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy a weekend to yourself every once in a while. If you are enrolled in an accelerated nursing program in Massachusetts, you’re lucky enough to live in an area with plenty of weekend getaway options.

In the City

If you would prefer to hang out in Boston, there is plenty to do. Spend the weekend playing tourist and visit all the sites you typically ignore. Hang out in the historical section and go on a tour. Spend some time at the museums, or go sightseeing in the bay. If you prefer sports, check out the Red Sox or one of the many other sports teams.

Enjoy Some Travel

Cape Cod

Enjoy some amazing seafood and relax at Cape Cod for the weekend. Even if the weather is cooling down, you can still enjoy a beautiful evening stroll along the beach. Enjoy taking a tour through the many lighthouses around Cape Cod, bike along the trails or spend the day at the Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge. If it’s a brisk day, spend some time at the aquarium. If you are interested in doing something completely unique, spend an afternoon whale watching.

If you prefer more adult activities, you can tour Cape Cod’s only brewery Cape Cod Beer, or enjoy a relaxing afternoon at the Cape Cod Winery.

Martha’s Vineyard

If you’ve been to Cape Cod and are looking for something new, check out Martha’s Vineyard. Of course there is always the beach, but Martha’s Vineyard has so much more to offer. Check out Island Alpaca to see some cuddly llamas and buy some alpaca wool. If you are a movie buff, take a Jaws tour, where you will see the filming locations for the 1975 classic.

If you are looking for something completely unique, visit the Mytoi Japanese garden. The garden includes authentic Japanese walkways and beautiful Cherry trees, all located in Martha’s Vineyard.

Enjoy the Seasons

New England is known for its beautiful fall foliage. Play the tourist and go on a weekend drive while the leaves are at their most beautiful. Consider renting a cabin in a neighboring state and enjoying a couple of days reading books and disconnected from social media.

Seek Some Thrills

If you’re more of a thrill seeker, spend a day or two at some local amusement parks. Six Flags in Massachusetts features some great thrill rides, including Batman: The Dark Knight, Bizarro and the Flashback. Six Flags is open until the beginning of November, so there is still time to enjoy the thrills.

Do you love Halloween and all the month of October entails? Check out Canobie Lake Park, where Rocktober Fest and Screeemfest last from September 27 to November 1. If you prefer, the park is filled with thrill rides, family rides and kid’s rides.

Treat Yourself

If you want to spend a luxurious long weekend out of town, consider a drive to New York City. Located just under four hours away, you have plenty of time to head out and enjoy the Big Apple for a couple of days. Check out a show on Broadway, enjoy the many museums and have a big sumptuous meal at one of the cities many amazing restaurants. Although this won’t be a cheap weekend, it would certainly be a memorable one.

If you’re interested in living in Boston, where you can enjoy the local excursions or get away from the weekend, consider relocating to Boston for Northeastern University’s accelerated BSN program.
