After receiving a previous bachelor’s degree, why did you go back to school to pursue a career in nursing?

I had a successful career in management before deciding to go back to school, but I wasn’t giving back to the community as much as I wanted to. I came to realize that time will pass no matter what I do, and I could either continue to work in a field that I enjoy but doesn’t need me, or I could take the time and go back to school to work in a field that can benefit from me. Nursing is a field I have always been interested in, and now more than ever, more people need preventative and acute medical care. With the aging population and medical complexities we are seeing, that need will continue to grow.

What do you like best about the Direct Entry-Hybrid Nursing Program?

This program allows me to earn my BSN in a timely manner and offers comprehensive didactic (theory) classes I can complete without having to sit in a traditional classroom. The flexibility fosters learning in the style that works best for me while having the support of my professors when needed. Also, being able to earn a master’s degree in Nursing Administration/Leadership and Policy was also appealing. I look forward to working with patients, but I also look forward to helping other nurses succeed in living a balanced, healthier lifestyle, so they can continue to care for those in need.

What do you feel is the greatest strength of the program?

The ability to gain experience through various clinical rotations and complete course work in an accelerated time frame. The curriculum is comprehensive and challenging but also rewarding. It provides me with the skills I need to be a great nurse.

How is the program preparing you for a career in nursing?

This program is preparing me to have the theoretical and practical abilities to be a skilled nurse with a solid base of knowledge. Opportunities to work in different areas of nursing throughout my clinical experiences helped me to find an area of focus. As a new nursing graduate, entering the workforce with this solid foundation will make me a better candidate for hire.
