Accelerated BSN Program FAQ

Below you will find answers to the most common questions we receive from prospective students interested in the Accelerated BSN program.

Contact our admissions team for any additional information.

What are the general admissions requirements for the ABSN program?

Northeastern’s ABSN campus near Boston requires a non-nursing bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, while the campus in Charlotte requires a minimum of 62 non-nursing college credits or a non-nursing bachelor’s degree.

For both program locations and regardless of prior education level, eligible candidates need a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Students must also complete any necessary prerequisites with grades of “C” or higher.

How will this online-based ABSN prepare me for a successful career?

Our accredited ABSN program is not 100% online. It also comprises hands-on learning and clinical practice. Through this blended learning model, you can expect to graduate with the knowledge and skills needed to confidently sit for the NCLEX-RN exam, required for becoming a registered nurse.

When should I apply to the ABSN program?

Our ABSN program offers class starts three times a year, in January, May, and September. Applications are usually due two months before classes start.

How many students can the ABSN program accommodate?

Our blended learning model allows us to accommodate higher enrollment capacities than many other nursing programs in your area. We start new cohorts of students in January, May, and September. Clinical groups usually consist of five to eight students per instructor to ensure everyone receives a high level of personalized attention.

Is it possible to work while participating in the ABSN program?

Because of its rigorous, full-time format, our ABSN program could easily be considered a job in itself. We recommend that students focus on their education full time. However, if you must work, we recommend discussing the demands of your school schedule, including clinical rotations, with your employer when determining how many hours a week are truly feasible.

What type of student excels in this accelerated nursing program?

We find that the students who are most successful in our ABSN program are dedicated, eager to learn, and highly organized.

Are there any financial aid options for the ABSN program?

Our Office of Financial Aid can provide you with information regarding the funding options available for the program. Our staff is also happy to help you complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form, which is the first step in determining federal financial aid eligibility.

What are the requirements for producing my admissions video?

Applicants are required to submit a brief admissions video to accompany their goal statements. We do not require these videos to be professionally produced. In fact, the process can be as simple as using the video function on a smartphone.

The only requirements we have are that the video must be no more than two minutes long, have sufficient lighting and show the applicant’s face as he/she answers the question: What qualities or experiences make you an ideal candidate for the Northeastern University ABSN program?

What if I am an international student or earned my degree outside the United States?

There are additional steps to take if you are an international student applying to our program, or if you earned your first degree outside the U.S.  Refer to our International Student Admissions Requirements for details.  Note that you must be a permanent resident of the U.S. to apply.
